en's site needed above all to reflect the clarity and elegance
of his imagery. An inventive studio photographer, he has created
images of iconographic appeal for a variety of clientele. His
success lies in his ability to draw on the very essence of the
product being photographed and to style his composition and
photographic technique to capture that essence.
We needed to provide Ken with a portfolio that would give the
viewer an immediate impression of Ken's work. By designing a
page of thumbnails that served as both evocative vignettes of
Ken's style and also as navigation for pop-up detail images, we
were able to accomplish this task. The site reflects the
sophistication of his photography and provides a framework for
more in-depth exploration.
SPECIAL UPDATE FEATURE:
Ken's portfolio is one in a series of photographer's sites that
we have done that are in Flash but are updateable by our client.
This feature is usually reserved for high-end website
developmentÑwhere a little application is made that allows the
client to edit their site without knowing anything about
building websites.
We have mimicked this capability in a primitive way. Our client
uses their browser to upload, delete, or re-arrange images on
their site. We have also created a set of special
password-accessed areas that are individual editable showcases.
This allows our client to create specialized presentations for
his customers without disrupting what others see on the
portfolio site.

This is a Flash site that uses its ActionScript to access an XML
file. That file in turn instructs Flash to load jpgs sitting in
a folder on the server. The advantage of using XML is that the
photos are loaded on demand, avoiding long loading wait times,
and unnecessary processor strain. The other advantage is that
editing the XML file will change what happens with inside the
published Flash piece without having to open the Flash authoring
environment.
The client is free of having to learn the intricacies of the web
and web development as the client accesses the admin area via
their preferred browser, and by performing actions similar to
adding an attachment to an email they can update their own site.
