n early 2001 Sony released its version of the popular hand-held
device. To promote the new product it needed a microsite that
would showcase the product's thin package and crisp screen
display. Later the site needed to be rebuilt to be a part of the
newly launched "sony style" site, where there was access to
information on a variety of Sony products.
Working with Kinetiscope we designed and developed this
microsite and its later modified version. The Flash-based site
allowed the user to rotate the CLIE which impressed the thinness
of the product. It also highlighted the features of the software
included by simulating some basic capabilities. The
look-and-feel of all of our projects for Sony at this time
reflected Sony's cutting-edge innovation without succumbing to
the common flaw of edgy tech-driven design that alienates and
confuses the end user. The CLIE interface was elegant and
sophisticated but still straight-forward and the information
easily accessible.
